Labour is due to launch its Business Manifesto tomorrow as the election campaign moves past the halfway stage.

Earlier this week Ian Lang, trade and industry secretary, revealed the Conservative Party’s plans to woo small business. It will reform the Uniform Business Rate and introduce a new rates allowance system.

Under the scheme, smaller firms would pay no rates on the first part of their rateable value. Lang claimed 93% of small businesses would benefit and said he expected the allowance would be at least £1,000.
