Cadbury remains committed to all of its UK food manufacturing plants despite plans to make 360 workers redundant.

The company says the redundancies are a result of a programme of ongoing capital investment aimed at improving manufacturing, wrapping and packaging processes.

More than 263 workers will go at Cadbury’s chocolate bar manufacturing site in Bournville in the West Midlands and a further 53 at its sister plant at Somerdale, Somerset. The company’s cocoa bean processing plant at Chirk, near Wrexham will also shed 47 staff. These three plants employ 3,000, 850 and 230 workers respectively.

The redundancies are set against a general backdrop of increasing sales and market share for the confectionary manufacturer.
