TRW Automotive’s plant near Newcastle manufactures 16 million car valves annually. Two new lines now both incorporate valve terminals from Festo, supplied by Wearside Pneumatics.

As the Festo valve terminals are compact, they can be located close to the new C Autoline, which makes valves for Nissan. This has seven Festo valve terminals controlling the processing of up to 500 car valves an hour.

Valves start off as a bar of steel, which is then heated and cut into short `slugs’. The Festo terminals control the grinding of the valve stem from the slugs, including the underhead profile and the seat.
