Lubricants, which oil the wheels of industry, are the focus of a new research centre at De Montfort University in Leicester.
The new Lubricant Research Centre aims to provide a forum for chemists, engineers and industrialists to study and improve the quality of lubricant oils which are vital for keeping machinery running efficiently with the minimum of maintenance.
Students will have the opportunity to undertake highly specialised postgraduate studies in lubricant and automotive industry technologies.
Professor Malcolm Fox is head of the new facility, which has been equipped with test cells designed to control and reduce noise and fumes associated with the development of lubricants.
There are plans to launch distance learning MSc courses for the plastics, polymers, lubricants and hydraulics industries.
