Comprehensive seminar programme should offer plenty of food for thought

One of the features of CIM 99 will be a three-day seminar programme offering almost 150 free seminars to be presented by IT users and vendors. The programme is divided into eight concurrent streams:

Manufacturing Leaders’ Symposium

Speakers include CarnaudMetalbox, explaining how to speed up the supply chain in the fast-moving consumer goods business; Wagon Automotive Pressings covering business process optimisation; and Nestle UK sharing experience of integrating process control systems to enterprise resource planning.

Aerospace

Speakers include GKN Westland Helicopters on reducing product development time; Dunlop on justifying PDM to the board; and Marconi Electronic Systems on how it implemented its best-in-class business systems strategy across multiple sites.

Automotive

Speakers include Williams F1 on its manufacturing strategy; Rover on automating the supply chain; and Ford on the use of simulation in its powertrain operations.

Process

Includes presentations on the use of IT to improve performance in the food and drinks industry. Among the speakers are Sanderson Textiles, looking at improving customer service, and management consultancy Ernst & Young on lean manufacturing in the chemicals industry.

Design Technologies

As part of this programme, the Computing Suppliers’ Federation will be offering advice on how to choose a design technologies supplier and how to implement the system. Other speakers include Jaguar, on using 3D CAM and Lucas Automotive on advanced solid modelling techniques.

Manufacturing Systems Integration

Bridging the gap that exists between different IT systems, particularly shop-floor and ERP systems, is the dominant theme of this seminar programme which is being sponsored by Aurega, part of Siemens Automation & Drives. Among the presentations will be case studies about Whitbread Brewery and New Covent Garden Soups.

Management Arena

During this programme, visitors will have a chance to hear the results of Benchmark Research’s annual CIM Survey, which highlights how much and where manufacturing industry is investing in IT. Other topics are supply chain integration, electronic business and ERP, which will be covered by participants such as Peoplesoft, ARC and Unigraphics.

Networking and E-business

Cisco will provide the keynote speaker each day and the subject will be Efficiency through electronic solutions. Other speakers include representatives from QAD, Proximity and Logica.
