Mollart’s deep-hole drilling expertise extends to subcontract production of femur pins for surgeries around the world. Nails up to 10mm diameter and 480mm long are supplied as turned titanium rod.
Mollart’s job is to machine a 4.4mm blind hole down the centre of the rod to within 100mm of one end, holding concentricity to within 0.4 of total indicator reading, and to counterbore the open end.
Using its own special purpose machines and workholding equipment, such as clamps and chucks, Mollart claims to be able to hold concentricity to within 0.01 TIR 40 times better than specification. Machining time on the longest nail is 20 minutes.
