Insulated bearings help cut flashover damage

Bearings supplier SKF has developed the Insocoat range of insulated roller bearings that can be retrofitted or used in new motors and generators.

The idea is to eliminate problems of electrical flashover that damage bearings and raceways leading to bearing failure.

Bearings up to 1,000V are available to special order and up to 500V as standard. Bearings fit shafts of between 55mm and 150mm diameter. SKF has extended its web site ( to provide simple but powerful links to local distributors.

It also contains contact names, maps and directions.

Calibration of differential pressure transmitters is now faster, cheaper but just as accurate using a new technique developed by Theta Systems at its Namas-accredited laboratory in Carterton, Oxfordshire.

The service is aimed at oil, gas and process industry customers and complements the existing service for calibrating pressure instruments.

Custom fixturing is available from Craftsman Tools of Otley, West Yorkshire. For example, a £30,000 powered fixture system supplied to Brook Hansen will be used to hold a range of motor terminal boxes, allowing up to eight components to be machined per face using twin pallet horizontal machining centres.
