Invitations to bid for two contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds will be sent out this month by Archer Communications, the prime contractor of the British Army’s £2bn Bowman radio contract.

Archer said requests for quotations will go to Racal Communications and Harris Communications for the high frequency (H/F) radio element of Bowman. The winner will build 10,000 H/F radio sets.

The second contest is between two consortia chasing the local area system of Bowman, under which fibre-optic communications links will be provided between military headquarters.

Both contracts will be let by the summer.
