Low cost, Internet-based remote control and monitoring of PC and associated equipment came a step closer last month, with Steinkrug’s (Cambridge) announcement of new software.

Its work follows the attempt two years ago by researchers at Cambridge to remotely monitor a department coffee machine using a video camera via the Internet.

Steinkrug says that key is the software’s ability to operate without a permanent Internet connection. Instead, the remote PC is alerted with a short direct dial call. It then automatically connects to the Internet and performs. Price of the software is £495. Tel Peter Kruger: 01223 208926.
