Two safer ways to measure moisture

Two safe instruments for measuring moisture in hazardous places can be seen on the Mitchell Instruments stand (B70) at the C&I show at the NEC.

Cermax is a portable hygrometer for determining moisture content, accurate to 1 C dewpoint between -60 C and +20 C. Transmet IS, a dewpoint transmitter certified instrinsically safe for cable distances up to 1,000m from the monitoring system, is accurate to 1 C dewpoint and 0.3 C temperature across the relevant ranges.

Gem Sensors (C&I stand P36) launches Psibar, a dedicated OEM pressure transducer that is rugged, with exceptional levels of long-term performance and stability, the company says.

It is accurate to within 0.5% over 100 million plus cycles and temperatures from -40 C to +120 C. The diaphragm improves overpressure performance.

An incubator developed by Heron Research improves chick hatching rates by up to 5% using Mitsubishi Electric’s Fx2N micro programmable logic controller to supervise temperature, humidity and air flow in the incubator.

Auto-tuning three term (PID) functions in the PLC cuts engineering setup times by automatically adjusting criteria such as heater power and response lags due to thermal mass.

Chicks take 21 days to hatch. The PLC’s onboard calendar/timer supports elapsed time and time of day variables over the hatching period.

Microprocessor controlled flow sensors measure liquid flow rates, directly, in litres per minute without time-consuming calibration.

Designed for use on DIN standard T-joint fittings, SA flow sensors have a response time of five seconds or better over the operating ranges 0 10, 0 20 or 0 40 litres per minute, measuring step changes in flow from 10 90% of maximum value. They can work in temperatures from 0 80 C.

For remote position sensing where an AC supply for line powered signal conditioning is unavailable, a new design of linear position transmitter puts the signal conditioning electronics within the same 19.1mm diameter housing.

The HCT 420 is an LVDT type linear position transmitter for remote valve position indication for, say, gap control of rollers in steel rolling mills.

Rated to 700 ohm/28VDC, the transmitter’s 4 20mA control loop minimises interference from changes in loop resistance during valve operation.

Transducer company RDP moves into rotary sensing with the RCDT 300 capacitive rotary displacement sensor targeting angular measurement in machine tool, robot, test stand and aircraft applications.

Using a 0 3V output, the unit measures rotation from 0 300. Unlike an encoder, however, capacitance permits infinitely variable measurement over the range. The unit is compact, and accurate to within 1% of reading.
