This cold pilger machine being manoeuvred into place was due to come on line this week at Sterling Tubes’ Walsall plant. The installation, part of a £3.5m investment at the site, will produce precision stainless steel tubes from 25-38mm, enabling the company to exploit growth in the heat exchanger and air cooler market. A further tranche of investment planned at Walsall is believed to be directed at preparing the works to cater for tubes which will allow the company to benefit from any take-off in coal-fired power station construction in China
