The process of filling correction fluid plastic pens by hand has been erased from the production line. The machine has been updated to end the labour intensive process. The Dutch company, Co Engineering, have installed Festo’s Profibus fieldbus system and Compact Performance valves into the machine design.

The CP valves are small and have a high flow rate and with a fieldbus system helped to reduce the machine’s build and installation time by 40%. The process automates the filling and assembly tasks with 116 air cylinders and motors which fill pens at a rate of 3,600 per hour.

With eight workstations which handle four pens at a time, the process is fed by a circular conveyor system. The components to be assembled are continually supplied by centrifugal fillers and vibrating hoppers via a pneumatically driven belt.
