The final part of Croydon’s tram network came online this week with the opening of the 10km route from Wimbledon to Elmers End. Trams for the £200m system were made by Bombardier and are powered by 750V direct current supplied through an overhead conductor wire. The Tramlink system is expected to carry 20 million passengers per year, reducing local car journeys by two million.
