Two oil refineries in the Czech Republic have been supplied with sampling systems from Jiskoot Autocontrol. Analysis is necessary to ensure the quality of the crude before it is sold, as the ratio of oil to water changes at source.
To ensure quality, four steps are taken: homogeneity of the pipeline contents; extraction of a flow proportional and representative sample, sample handling and analysis.
As water and oil are non homogenous natural turbulence within the pipeline is often insufficient for mixing the contents. Static mixers require the flowrate within the pipeline to power them which creates problems when flowrates are low and the most mixing is required. Jet-Mix from Jiskoot is used to mix the liquids and is self powered to provide a constant mixing energy. The Jet Mix can be installed without pipeline shutdown and causes minimal pressure loss.
A small portion of the oil is withdrawn and re-injected up stream in high velocity jets. The jets finely disperse and evenly distribute the crude over the cross section of the pipeline by twin helix rotation.
Once the sample has been taken it is stored in a Jiskoot PR53 receiver can, connected to a mechanical scale. Accurate analysis is carried out on the crude to determine its value and through effective sampling provides a measurable return on capital investment.
