Leading French CADCAM developer Dassault Systemes is to acquire the 3D software components business of Spatial Technologies in a $21.5m cash deal. Spatial’s core product is ACIS the 3D geometrical modeller and visualisation package which enables CAD vendors to implement 2D and 3D solids modelling in their CAD systems. Spatial also offers expertise in 3D components for Internet-based e-commerce and B2B applications which will be utilised by future Dassault products. Portions of the current Spatial operation which are not in the 3D component business will continue under the name PlanetCAD. Dassault has released Catia V5R4, which provides double the capabilities of earlier versions, with a wide range of integrated e-business solutions and full product lifecycle management.
