An enhanced data logging and SCADA system has been provided for the number 3 electro-galvanising line at British Steel’s Shotton works by Scomagg.

Data from GEM80 PLCs is concentrated using a Cegelec Alspa 80-75 PLC and then transmitted to an Intellution FIX SCADA database running on a Dec Pentium PC using Windows NT.

Communication between PLCs is via dedicated FIP and ESD links, whilst communication to the central SCADA database uses a dedicated Ethernet link.

Data transfers between the server and the view clients use fibre optic communications to preserve data integrity.
