Cable & Wireless and Nortel are leading the way on recycling by developing cooperation with their suppliers through environmental workshops. These were designed to gauge environmental knowledge and priorities of product managers from telecom manufacturers and distributors.
Cable & Wireless sees the initiative as part of a wider attempt to show high standards of environmental performance. But while requirements governing packaging waste and taking back electrical equipment were a key motivation behind the events, the process is also seen as offering the companies a competitive advantage.
Nortel designed its workshops to enhance customer loyalty’ and, in key markets, set the company apart from the competition.
Cable & Wireless also believes effective environmental management can help the company win new customers, by attracting firms ‘who wish to choose services from companies which can show higher performance standards’.
