The aerospace industry is set for 20 years of steady growth, according to Airbus – a stark contrast to Boeing’s assessment.

`We predict that the next 20 years will see a steady annual growth rate of around 5%,’ Paul Mason, Airbus Industrie vice-president for commercial operations, said. `Boeing’s downbeat view of the global aerospace industry is not echoed at Airbus.’

Boeing has predicted that the Asian economic crisis would cost 150 aircraft orders over the next five years. It also said that within 10 years, there would be no viable market for an aircraft bigger than the 747.
