An international measurement standards agreement signed by the UK and 30 other nations should save exporters thousands of pounds for every product launched.
The deal eliminates a trade barrier in manufactured goods by raising global acceptance of national test and measurement certificates. These detail areas that must be tested before a product can be marketed, including safety, build quality and consumer protection.
Previously, products had to be separately tested for each national market.
The agreement was championed by the UK’s National Physical Laboratory as a response to the growing number of countries involved in world trade.
