Ford subsidiary Jaguar chose this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show to unveil plans for its participation in next year’s Formula One series.
According to Neil Ressler, Ford vice-president and chief technical officer, the participation will have far-reaching benefits for Jaguar and its Coventry workforce.
`Jaguar’s technical input to the F1 programme will begin immediately,’ he said. `The Coventry-based engineering teams can contribute to the racing programme and Jaguar’s production-car engineers can learn a great deal from the racing team.
`The need to solve problems quickly breeds a nimble and innovative culture which we will be able to transfer to the road-car development.’
Speaking in Frankfurt, Jaguar chairman Dr Wolfgang Reitzle said: `The move into F1 will undoubtedly have technological benefits for Jaguar.
`It will also promote a wider global recognition of the Jaguar brand as we expand our product range over the next few years.’
