Oxidisation and thermal conductivity make aluminium difficult to weld. But Techno-Weld fusion joins aluminium alloys at some 200 degrees C below melting point using a standard workshop torch, says the maker. Other alloys that can be joined include Mazak, magnesium and high-zinc grades. A breakthrough, says the company, is the ability to join thin to thick section.
A high performance, water-based bonding adhesive is set to replace mechanical fastenings, joining metal to non-metal in car brake shoes, disc pads and other demanding applications, says maker Ciba Specialty Chemicals. The Araldite formulation is based on a non-flammable, solvent-free nitrile phenolic resin
