Ford is investing £25m at its Swansea components plant to increase production capacity of wheel hubs and drums for the new Escort range.
The hubs and drums will be exported to Ford plants in Europe and North America, following Ford’s decision to phase out Escort production at Halewood, Merseyside, by 2000. The investment will include capacity to produce brake discs.
Some 30 new machines will be installed at Swansea by May, along with the retooling of 16 old machines. New production capacity will begin in 1998.
