Ford chose Halewood with £43m assistance

The Government this week confirmed it would provide aid worth £43m to secure production of the Jaguar X400 in the UK

The official announcement was made via a three-way live satellite link involving Ford in the US, prime minister Tony Blair from Downing Street and management and workers at the Halewood plant.

The £400m investment at Halewood will secure 2,900 jobs on Merseyside, with the prospect of 500 new jobs after 2002.

The £43m package will consist of Regional Selective Assistance and support for training delivered through Merseyside Tec and other local partners.

Ford announced at the beginning of this year at the Detroit Motor Show that Halewood would be selected for the Jaguar X400 investment subject to agreement with the Government for a package of financial support.
