Visteon Corporation plans to open two new facilities near Volkswagen’s Emden and Mosel sites in Germany.

When operational in late 2004, the facilities will manufacture and assemble fuel tank systems for the Volkswagen Group’s new Passat.

Visteon is among the first automotive suppliers to introduce a ‘Twin Sheet’ thermoformed plastic fuel tank system.

The technology allows system components such as the Fuel Delivery System, Fuel Filters, Fuel/ Vapour Lines and On-Board Recovery System to be integrated inside the fuel tank.

Because of that, the number of paths where fuel vapours can escape can be reduced, minimising evaporative emissions and enabling automobile manufacturers to meet new evaporative emission standards.
