Hunting Engineering, the Bedfordshire-based subsidiary of Hunting Defence, has signed an agreement with state-owned French defence group Giat Industries to create a 50/50 jointly owned company to compete in the growing military tent market.

The venture, with expected sales of £10m a year, will be based at Giat’s plant at Rennes in France, and at Hunting Engineering’s plant at Pershore in Worcestershire. Both factories will take on more work as new business is developed in the home and overseas markets, Hunting says.

The company recently won a £50m contract to supply integrated biological detection systems to the Ministry of Defence, for which Giat shelters will be used.

It has also bought Hertfordshire-based Kudos 2000, which specialises in manufacturing folding cages and compounds, bunk beds, office furniture and modular portable buildings.
