Croydon clock maker Gillett & Johnston, known for its work on modern and heritage timepieces, has recruited its first apprentice since the 1970s. Eighteen-year-old Chris Whitelaw is to train as a horological engineer. Whitelaw, who has gained NVQ level 2 in mechanical and electronic engineering at South London Training and Enterprise Network, will spend three years at the firm working towards an NVQ 3 and BTEC National Diploma.
