Car component company TRW may recruit engineers made redundant by crane maker Grove Europe last year.
The Sunderland company is to recruit 107 new staff after receiving the go-ahead for an £8.8m investment to build a plant close to the dormant Grove site.
TRW aims to fill the posts over the next 18 months and began advertising this month.
Operations director Mike Hill said that former Grove employees would be welcome among the new workforce.
‘We shall certainly be pleased to consider suitable applications from former workers of Grove as part of our recruitment programme,’ said Hill.
A £750,000 grant from the Department of Trade and Industry has paved the way for the new plant. It will manufacture steering system components for Opel and Vauxhall cars.
The last of the 670 workers at Grove Europe left in December, five months after its US owners announced production was to be stopped.
