British Aerospace confirmed this week that it would be bidding to supply India with its Hawk jet trainers, worth hundreds of millions of pounds. India has an urgent requirement for new jet trainers to replace its obsolete, domestically-built Kiran and its Polish-built Iskra aircraft. BAe said India might need up to 180 aircraft. The Hawk could be built under licence by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics.
