River Don Castings, part of the Sheffield Forgemasters group, has increased its capacity to engineer heavy castings with the addition of a 250 tonne overhead crane. The company says the investment – part of a £2m programme – makes its Brightside Lane steel foundry the heaviest in the western world. The crane increases the site’s lifting capacity to 400 tonnes, which will be used to lift the largest casting ever made in the UK – a 240 tonne mill housing cast for a German client
