Throughput at Cummins’ Darlington engine plant has increased to 22 engines an hour from 16 following installation of an extended overhead conveyor circuit. The investment, part of a turnkey contract awarded to Conveyors International, allows the company to handle higher volumes with less staff – as well as saving space and eliminating bending by workers. `We hope to gain an additional 267 productive hours per annum through increased efficiency,’ said John Cole, Cummins’ production engineer. Finished product can now bypass engines needing additional work
