Hunting Brae fined £22,000 over Aldermaston incident

Magistrates at Newbury, Berkshire, this week fined the Hunting Brae consortium £22,000 over an incident at the Aldermaston atomic weapons site last December in which two workers inhaled small amounts of plutonium.

Hunting Brae’s wholly owned subsidiary, AWE, was fined £14,000 for the breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act.

The holding company was fined £4,000 for breaching Nuclear Installations rules and a further £4,000 for violating the Ionising Radiation Regulations.

The two companies, which admitted all charges, were also ordered to pay £7,500 costs.
