Defence firms and suppliers to police forces have started a defence export market intelligence scheme funded by the Department of Trade and Industry.

The Export Opportunities (Defence & Security) Service was set up by the Defence Manufacturers’ Organisation and the Association of Police & Public Security Suppliers.

The DTI has made available £100,000 to get the scheme going. Exporters who subscribe to the service will be given details of business opportunities through an ‘export opportunities alerting service’ and profiles of countries UK firms are targeting.

The scheme is supported by the Ministry of Defence’s defence export services organisation. Publication of a world-wide directory of main prime contractors is planned for March 1999.
