In pursuit of excellence

IT developments are often held to be key factors in the pursuit of excellence – a theme reflected in the Industry Centres of Excellence strand at the CIM ’99 show, reports Brian Davis

Manufacturing’s various sectors have a set of common goals: cutting the time from design-to-market, finding techniques to improve the supply chain’s effectiveness, optimising control systems to increase efficiency and profitability, and coping with the move towards globalisation in trade.

The Industry Centres of Excellence stands and seminar programmes will explore how specific sectors – including automotive, aerospace, process, electrical/electronics and mechanical engineering – can achieve these goals.

Free seminars to address the changing needs of the respective sectors will be supported by trade associations including the Society of British Aerospace Companies, Institute of Electronic Engineers and the Institute of Engineering Designers. An information point will help identify areas of interest, and consultant clinics will offer new strategies to help executives optimise their IT investments.
