Laurence Williams, Britain’s chief inspector of nuclear installations and director of nuclear safety at the Health and Safety Executive, is to join the United Nation’s International Atomic Energy Agency as chair of the commission on safety standards. The commission comprises senior nuclear regulators for 16 UN member states. Williams is the first Briton to hold the position. His appointment will last for four years.
