Investment figures fall

Investment in manufacturing was down 1.1% from January to March, compared with the fourth quarter of 1997, according to Office of National Statistics figures out this week. But manufacturing was still 4.7% higher than in the same period last year. A large rise in production investment and construction kept total private-sector investment positive.
