The Team Philips catamaran was not a gallant plunge into the unknowable but was more a feckless blunder into predictable disaster.

Peter Goss neglected to seek help from aviation engineers, whose expertise could have averted the failure of the boat’s cantilever bow. The consequence of this is that an innovative vessel which could, if properly engineered, perform as spectacularly as he predicted is now unlikely to be built in the UK.
