Basingstoke-based lift truck maker Linde Lansing is to revamp its short-term rental service from August, as part of a package of initiatives to be launched over the next 12 months.

The service, to be called One Call Hire, will provide a lift truck within two hours of telephoning one of Linde’s 29 UK depots.

From the autumn, Linde will also provide trained fork lift operators, through a staff agency.

The move comes amid over-capacity in the European lift truck market, which has reduced margins on sales and forced severe cost-cutting in manufacturing throughout the industry.

Other moves planned by Linde and its rivals include more sophisticated consultancy and modelling of potential buyers’ warehouse systems, adding higher margins from services to supplement sales and leasing income.
