Details emerged this week of the imminent missile, naval and defence electronics joint venture between GEC and Italy’s Alenia Difesa.

Finmeccanica, Alenia’s parent company, said the holding company owning the defence joint venture would be based in the Netherlands.

Alenia Difesa’s managing director, Pierfrancesco Guarguaglini, will be chairman of the venture, and GEC-Marconi Radar & Defence Systems’ group managing director, Peter Brown, will be chief executive. The joint venture’s board will have six members three from each company.

The joint venture is expected to have 9,500 staff and a turnover of around £890m.
