Lockheed Martin is to enhance it presence in Europe by opening a unit called Lockheed Martin, UK, based in London, to coordinate the corporation’s UK business interests, represent its varied partnerships with UK industry and facilitate the identification of new partnerships.
To further encourage strong international industry partnerships, Lockheed Martin is advocating that US and European defence companies should have equal opportunities to meet military requirements of all NATO member governments.
The company envisions a future transatlantic marketplace that is integrated, open and competitive, and supported by a transatlantic defence industrial base that is innovative and robust.
Equal industry access throughout this combined transatlantic defence market will enable NATO to mobilise European and US industry to work together to correct the `requirements-capabilities gap’ that threatens the ability of NATO military forces to operate jointly with modern systems across the full spectrum of defence capabilities.
In the short term, the emphasis will be on practical partnerships organised around specific projects or lines of business, rather than transatlantic mergers.
