Sliding-headstock lathes which automatically machine the reverse end of components before they leave the machine have been introduced by Japanese firm Star Micronics. Unnecessary frills have been left out to increase their productivity.
They are intended for machining bar stock up to 12mm and 16mm. The sole UK agent is A&S Precision. Optional extras include a chip conveyor, parts conveyor, barstock gripping unit, tool setter, parts ejection detector and sub-spindle air blow.

* Two Feeler bed-type vertical machining centres from Emi-Mec are designed to suit volume applications where a larger working envelope is an advantage. Both machines, the 1000mm and 1200mm, have drum-type tool changers for 24 tools for increased speed of tool change. Spindle speed is 5,000-6,000rpm. Maximum loading on the 560mm by 1300mm table is 1,000kg.
