Men behind the merger: deputy chairman Ian Strachan, chairman Lord Marshall and chief executive Allen Yurko were this week due to begin the campaign to persuade shareholders of BTR and Siebe to approve the tie-up of the two companies. Siebe is offering 0.533 of its shares for each BTR share, in a deal which will give BTR shareholders only 45% of the combined company. The deal has been struck with BTR shares at their lowest for 14 years, a fact which could tempt a rival bidder to pitch for the group.
