The Ministry of Defence’s procurement record has been branded `abysmal’ by MPs on the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee. The MPs pointed to cost overruns of £2.8bn on the MoD’s top 25 major projects and delays of up to 10 years, claiming the poor performance had damaged the armed forces’ capabilities. The government said many of the problems dated back to the previous administration and would be tackled by the MoD’s Smart Procurement policy.
