Modified Rolls-Royce Trent aero engines are to power the new generation of cargo ships that will cut transatlantic crossing times by half. Each ship built by FastShip in Philadelphia will be driven by five 50MW Trent gas turbines, adapted for marine use. They will enable the ships to travel at up to 40 knots and cross the Atlantic in seven days. Under a $1bn (£645m) contract, Rolls-Royce will supply Trents for four ships and five spares. * Finance, p8
