Improvements to the drive units in Modular Handling’s conveyors are synchronised drive units which are said to eliminate the need for a return track. Linked with one continuous chain, using straight switches, the drive motors are controlled through inverters to maintain synchronised operating speeds.

Any slackening or tightening of the chain is detected via a pivoted arm at each drive station, signalling the inverter to increase the drive speed at the appropriate motor to re-establish synchronisation.
