Systems integrator, Scomagg has completed the 4 million EPGMS (Emergency Plume Gamma Monitoring Systems) project, covering radiation monitoring at all 10 Magnox and Nuclear Electric power stations superseding earlier systems in providing on-screen evaluation of serious incidents.

The system uses dual redundant VAX/VMS workstations for acquisition, alarm logging and display along with Motif windows with a relational database. Similar VAX workstations, linked via dedicated ThinWire and fibre optic Ethernet LANs, provide on-line displays. Data can also be accessed in the field via laptops.

The system is based on Scomagg’s VXN software, providing very high availability. It uses Nuclear Electric’s algorithms plus Scomagg software to generate SCADA mimics showing site maps with dynamic readings, trends and summaries.
