Motorola, Embedded Planet, IBM and QNX Software Systems have teamed up to speed the development of in-car information systems.
The Motorola-led alliance aims to develop a system architecture, MobileGT, which will allow car makers to cost-effectively install driver information systems.
Systems would include virtual dashboards, natural language speech processing programs, and multimedia and internet access.
Developing driver information systems is costly. `Until now, anyone wanting to develop a new in-car system would typically have to design hardware and software from scratch,’ said Skip McGaughey, director of sales and marketing at IBM’s embedded tools group. `MobileGT lets developers focus on their intellectual content instead.’
