Labour MP and engineer Claire Curtis-Thomas has called for calculators to be banned in classrooms for all children under 16.

Speaking at a debate at the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the MP said that despite the Government’s computers – for – classrooms deal with Microsoft, under-16s should be prevented by law from having calculators at school.

‘I have no calculators in my house; my children have been taught to think about maths,’ she said.
