Jonathan Browning, Ford Europe’s executive director of marketing, has been named new managing director of Jaguar.

Browning, who takes up his appointment on 1 July, will be in charge of the company’s next new model launch, the X400 saloon, scheduled to take place in two years’ time.

He will also be responsible for implementing the growth strategy set by the company’s management team, reporting to Dr Wolfgang Reitzle, recently-appointed Jaguar chairman and group vice-president of Ford’s premier automotive group.

Born in Taunton, Browning gained a degree in industrial economics from Nottingham University before studying for an MBA at Duke University in the US. He joined General Motors in 1981, holding senior jobs in sales, marketing, and general management both in the UK and overseas. He joined Ford as executive director of marketing in its European marketing, sales and service organisation in 1997.

Browning will be joined on the Jaguar board by Mike Beasley, who becomes executive director responsible for manufacturing and engineering.

Beasley was key to the launch of the S-Type, and will be responsible for ensuring the engineering and manufacturing operations meet their deadlines for the X400’s launch.
