Ingersoll Engineers, the management consultant specialising in manufacturing, has changed its name to Bourton Group to reflect `the expansion of the practice beyond its original manufacturing engineering roots,’ according to Keith Bisset, managing director.

The company, which produces an authoritative annual survey of critical success factors in manufacturing, began life as an offshoot of Ingersoll Milling Machine in the US and was the subject of a buyout in 1988.

Initially its expertise was in production engineering but this expanded to encompass manufacturing, including supply chain management and human resource development.

Tim Washington, a director, said the company works in areas where the problems were not the province of engineers.
