Two more companies – Fisher Rosemount and Real Time Engineering – have established assistance packages for the Year 2000 problem.
Fisher Rosemount, which has been working on it for nine months with a major pharmaceutical firm, has established a Year 2000 project team. The company says that typically, less than 2% of software modules in a DCS make use of date references.
Finding and correcting problem software is being handled under its Software Revision Service. A similar service is being offered for application software, with testing and verification.
Real Time Engineering, which defines the problem as `management, not technical’, is offering similar services in three phases. First is audit and analysis; second, strategy and planning; and third, implementation and testing.
